Diary of anonymous Massachusetts farmer, 1849.

A personal diary written on leaves inserted between pages of a copy of Thomas's "Farmers Almanack" for 1849. Brief entries detail daily activities and experiences, such as his travels, weather conditions, attending church, family events, and visits with friends and relatives. The author appears to have lived in the vicinity of Weymouth, Massachusetts, since the place is mentioned frequently. He had also traveled to Boston a number of times.

Robert Bailey Thomas (1766-1846), of Sterling and West Boylston, Mass., was the son of William and Azabah Thomas. From an early age, Thomas desired to publish an almanac, but found he lacked the needed mathematical skill. He became an apprentice book binder and soon began a career as a bookseller. This in turn renewed his interest in publishing almanacs, so Thomas attended a mathematics school in Boston. In 1793, he published his _Farmer's Almanack_.
